Nice Things Said

A lot of people have been saying nice things about Necessary Monsters lately, so I thought I might do a quick post to round up some of the mentions we’ve been getting. First off, Richard Burton has weighed in with a lovely review of issue five of Monsters’ mini-comic incarnation at Forbidden Planet.

Elsewhere on the web, Brigid at Mostly True Tales gave us a nice little mention and we also received a shout out from our webcomic brethren at Border Crossings. With the solicitation of the Necessary Monsters trade, we’ve also been the beneficiaries of quite a few recommendations from across the Internet, three of which I’ve just cunningly linked to in this sentence.

And to finish out, here’s a little interview with me about Necessary Monsters and the upcoming tpb at ComicMonsters.com. Enjoy!

Necessary Monsters: The Book

Comic

The first Necessary Monsters trade paperback is coming out in February from AiT/PlanetLar. The book collects the complete story so far, including updated artwork across all five chapters and a brand new introduction by Kieron Gillen (Phonogram, S.W.O.R.D, Thor). The book is available for pre-order via your local comic shop using Diamond order code DEC09 0641. Alternatively you can purchase via your online retailer of choice – Forbidden Planet in the UK and Amazon in the US seem like good choices.

If you’ve enjoyed reading the series online, myself and Sean would really appreciate you showing that support by ordering a copy of the print edition. Sean needs to eat, and I need to install a new Jacuzzi in my private Helijet. Hell, tell all your friends to order a copy too – Helijet Jazcuzzi’s don’t grow on trees you know.

New Monster review

Posted: September 21st, 2009 | Author: Merlin | Filed under: News | | No Comments »

Richard Bruton has just posted his review of issues 3+4 of Monsters. Here is his closing paragraph.

For the reader it’s bloody brilliant stuff. Just as clichéd (in the best context of the word) as the first couple of issues. A cracking spy-horror thriller, full of nastiness, plenty of gore, rapid action and tremendous setpieces. Just like I’d been expecting.

Again, Goodbrey’s writing is a big draw to the book and I’m expecting him to get very successful in the US anytime soon, but Necessary Monsters is also Sean Azzopardi’s book, with his artwork, all stark black and white stuff, perfectly laid out for maximum energy and storytelling.

Sounds good to me!
